Classic & Luxury Car Towing

A '55 Chevy headed to the paint shop, a Corvette going to a show on the other side of the state, a new Porsche that won't start in a downtown Ann Arbor garage. Cars like these get loaded slowly, strapped at the wheels, and carried on the deck for the whole trip, by a driver who knows what's on the truck.

What's included

Every classic and luxury tow includes

  • Carried on the deck for the whole trip, all four wheels off the ground
  • Low-angle loading, with the driver watching front-end clearance the whole way up
  • Wheel straps over the tires whenever the car can take them, with no hooks on bumpers or trim
  • Slow winch loading for non-running cars, with the driver watching clearance
  • Walk-around at pickup and drop-off, with existing marks pointed out to you
  • Car shows, auctions, restoration shops, storage, and dealer deliveries
  • Scheduled pickups and long-distance trips quoted before booking
  • Itemized receipt for your records or your collector-car insurer

Why these cars are loaded differently

A collector car or a luxury car isn't harder to tow than an everyday car. It is less forgiving. A chain hook on a chrome bumper, a strap across a fender, or a front lip dragged over the edge of the deck leaves a mark that costs far more than the tow. So the job is done slower and with different equipment.

Loading angle. The deck comes down to the pavement so the car climbs as gentle a slope as possible. The driver watches the gap under the front end as the car comes up, stopping to adjust if anything gets close.

Straps. Wheel straps go over the tires and pull the car down onto the deck through the wheels, so the suspension stays at its normal height and nothing presses on paint or trim. No hooks go on bumpers or trim.

The walk-around. Before the car moves, the driver walks around it with you and points out anything already there: a chip, a scuffed wheel, a soft tire. The same walk happens at drop-off.

The cars we carry

  • Classics and muscle cars. Tri-five Chevys, early Mustangs, Camaros, Chargers, Challengers, and the rest of the cars that fill Depot Town on a summer weekend.
  • Corvettes and sports cars. Low noses, fiberglass bodies, and wide tires, all of which call for a low loading angle and careful strap placement.
  • Exotics and supercars. Porsche, Ferrari, Lamborghini, McLaren, and other cars with very little ground clearance and expensive bodywork.
  • Luxury sedans and SUVs. Mercedes, BMW, Audi, Lexus, Range Rover, and Escalade, many of them all-wheel drive with air suspension, which means they ride fully on the deck.
  • Replicas, restomods, and project cars. Kit cars, cars mid-restoration, and cars missing parts. Tell dispatch what's on and what's off so the driver knows where the car can be pulled from.

Tell dispatch about the car

The more dispatch knows, the smoother the load. Useful details: the year, make, and model; whether it runs, steers, and brakes; the tire condition after storage; how low the front end sits; anything aftermarket like a lowered suspension, side exhaust, or a front spoiler; and whether there's a preferred tie-down point. If the car is in a tight garage or behind other cars, say so, because the truck has to line up straight behind it.

Where we take them

Restoration and paint shops, upholstery shops, and specialists who only work on one brand. Car shows and cruise nights, from Saline to the Woodward Dream Cruise. Auctions and private sales. Winter storage in the fall and back home in the spring. Dealer service departments for warranty work. For trips outside Washtenaw County, see long-distance towing. Every trip rides on the deck as described in flatbed towing.

Scheduling and pricing

Most classic and collector moves aren't emergencies, so they can be booked ahead. Send dispatch a message with the pickup and drop-off addresses, the car, whether it runs, and the day you need it moved. Dispatch replies with a time and a price.

The price is a hook-up fee plus loaded miles, the same as the rest of our towing, with any add-on named before you agree. If your car is insured through a collector-car policy that covers towing, you pay us and submit the itemized receipt. We don't bill insurance directly.

If your classic just won't start on a nice afternoon, call 734-985-0010. Sometimes it's a battery, and a jump-start gets it home under its own power.

Questions

Frequently asked

My classic hasn't run in years. Can you still move it?

Yes. Barn finds, project cars, and cars that have sat in storage get winched up the deck slowly. Tell dispatch whether the wheels roll, whether the brakes work, and whether the tires hold air. A car with seized brakes or flat tires can still be moved, but the driver needs to know so the loading is planned for it.

Can you deliver my car to a car show?

Yes. Show deliveries are scheduled in advance. Give dispatch the venue, the time you need the car there, and who will be meeting the truck. If the car needs to come home the same day, the return trip can be booked at the same time.

My exotic is very low. Can it be loaded without scraping?

Usually, yes. The deck tilts down to the pavement and the car comes up slowly, with the driver watching the front lip and stopping to adjust before anything touches. Cars with a front lift system should have it raised before loading if it still works. Tell dispatch the make and model and roughly how much clearance the front lip has, and the driver comes prepared.

Will you strap my car by the frame?

For classic and luxury cars we strap over the tires with wheel straps whenever the car can take them, so nothing touches the body or the underside. If a car can't be strapped at the wheels, the driver uses the tie-down points the manufacturer specifies and tells you before tightening anything.
