Wayne County, not Washtenaw: where Canton sits on our map

Canton is a charter township in Wayne County, and it is the only Wayne County area we serve. The county line runs along Napier Road on the township's west edge; cross it eastbound on Ford Road or Geddes Road and you have left Superior Township for Canton. There is no City of Canton; the government is Canton Charter Township, six miles on a side, from Joy Road south to the Van Buren Township line. A Canton address can be a cul-de-sac near Ridge Road or a big-box lot at the I-275 interchange, so give dispatch the nearest cross streets, not just the township name.

The Ford Road strip, where batteries quit in parking lots

Ford Road (M-153) is how most people outside the township know Canton. From Haggerty Road west past Lilley, Sheldon, and Canton Center it is one long run of shopping centers and big-box stores, thickest around the I-275 interchange. That corridor produces a specific call: a car that started fine at home and will not turn over after an hour inside a store. The answer is a jump-start first, with a charging-system check before you pull out. If the battery is finished rather than the alternator, we carry Standard, AGM, H6, H7, and H8 sizes and do the battery install in the parking space, so a shopping trip does not become a trip to a shop. Lockouts happen here too, usually a key left in a bag on the seat. Tell dispatch the store and which entrance you are nearest; these lots are large enough to lose a truck in.

I-275, M-14, and Michigan Avenue: the commuter shoulders

I-275 runs north to south through Canton's east side, carrying commuters between M-14 to the north and I-94 to the south. Breakdowns land on the shoulders and ramps at the Ford Road and Michigan Avenue interchanges, and at rush hour a car stalled in a live lane is a real hazard. Michigan Avenue (US-12) crosses the township's south end and runs straight back to Ypsilanti, which makes it the road we use most often to reach you. M-14 passes just north of the township and is the route from Ann Arbor. From any of these, tell dispatch which way you were headed, the last exit behind you, and whether the car is on the shoulder, a ramp, or in traffic. Emergency towing is priced the same way at 3 a.m. as at 3 p.m.

Cul-de-sacs, driveways, and the campus off Joy Road

Most of Canton is housing. Subdivisions fill the blocks between Canton Center, Sheldon, Lilley, Beck, and Ridge, and the streets off Cherry Hill Road range from older ranch neighborhoods to the newer walkable blocks of Cherry Hill Village. The Plymouth-Canton Educational Park campus off Joy Road adds thousands of students, many of them new drivers, and its lots see plenty of first dead batteries and first flat tires. Driveway calls are the simple ones: a tire change, a lockout, or a fuel delivery is a flat roadside fee, done at the curb with no tow. When a car has to move, mention a tight cul-de-sac, a low branch, or a car sitting inside a garage, because that changes how the truck approaches. Winter adds cars that slid off a sloped driveway or nosed into a plow bank at a corner; that is usually a winch-out, and the base price already covers the first fifteen minutes of pulling.

Twelve miles east: the honest ETA talk

We are plain about geography. Our base is in Ypsilanti, about twelve miles west of Canton's center, and the run out is Michigan Avenue or Ford Road east, or Geddes Road when both are jammed. A truck finishing a call in Superior Township or Ypsilanti Township is closer and reaches you sooner. Dispatch knows where the trucks are when you call and gives you a drive time for that moment rather than a brochure number. Dispatch answers around the clock, every day of the year, holidays included. The team works in English, Arabic, Spanish, German, and Romanian, so you can explain where you are in whichever of those you think in. And the price is settled before a truck moves: a hook-up fee plus loaded miles for a tow, a flat fee for roadside work, with any add-on for holidays or extra equipment named on the phone. You get an itemized receipt at the end, written so you can hand it to your own insurer; we do not bill insurance directly.

Where a Canton tow usually ends up

Canton has its own dealerships and independent shops, mostly along Ford Road and Michigan Avenue, and the short hop from a subdivision or a retail lot to one of them is the most common tow we do here. Tows are priced on loaded miles counted from where we hook the car, not from Ypsilanti, so a local Canton tow does not carry the cost of our drive out. An Ann Arbor dealer or a shop back in Ypsilanti is the same math with more miles, and dispatch gives you the total before you decide. For light-duty towing of cars, SUVs, pickups, and vans, we send the right truck for your vehicle and carry it rather than drag it, so all-wheel-drive and low-clearance cars ride safely. Beyond Canton, the same dispatch covers Superior Township across Napier Road, Ypsilanti Township down Michigan Avenue, and Ann Arbor at the far end of M-14. One call reaches all of it: 734-985-0010.

Questions

Frequently asked

Canton is in Wayne County. Do you really cover it from Ypsilanti?

Yes. Canton is the only Wayne County area we serve, and we treat it as a regular part of the map, not an exception. The township starts at Napier Road, the county line, and Ford Road and Michigan Avenue both run straight into it from our side. Dispatch prices the call the same way as anywhere else: a hook-up fee plus loaded miles, counted from where the vehicle sits to where it is going, confirmed before a truck leaves.

How long will I wait on the I-275 shoulder before a truck arrives?

Dispatch gives you a real estimate based on where the trucks are at that moment, and we would rather tell you a long number than a flattering one. From Ypsilanti the run is about twelve miles, usually Michigan Avenue or Ford Road east. Tell dispatch northbound or southbound, the nearest exit, and whether the car is on the shoulder or up on the ramp. Keep your hazards on and stay in the car unless you can reach a safe spot well off the pavement.

My car will not start in a Ford Road parking lot. Tow or jump-start?

Start with a jump-start. If the battery takes a charge and the alternator tests fine, you drive away and the call is a flat roadside fee. If the battery is done, we can install a new one in the lot, choosing from Standard, AGM, H6, H7, and H8 sizes, so you skip the tow entirely. A tow only makes sense when the problem is not the battery, and dispatch will walk through that with you on the phone before sending anything.

Can I call dispatch in a language other than English?

Dispatch and the team work in English, Arabic, Spanish, German, and Romanian. Ask for the language you are most comfortable in when you call and we will handle the rest of the conversation that way, including the price confirmation and the receipt walk-through. If a family member is making the call for you, that is fine too. What matters is that the location, the vehicle, and the price are clear to everyone before a truck is sent.
