What's included

What a call from the township gets you

  • The shortest run we make outside the city itself: about three miles from our Ypsilanti base to most of the township
  • Shoulder and ramp pickups on I-94 at the Huron Street, Michigan Avenue, and Rawsonville Road exits, in either direction
  • Drivers who know Whittaker, Grove, Textile, Bemis, and Ecorse Roads by name rather than by a GPS pin
  • Winch-outs from the ditches along Textile, Merritt, and Willis Roads and from soft ground at the Ford Lake boat launches
  • Apartment-lot and mobile-home-community service off Michigan Avenue and Grove Road, including tight rows where a car has to be loaded and secured without touching its neighbors
  • Jump-starts, tire changes, lockouts, fuel delivery, and battery installs in your driveway, at work, or in a plaza lot
  • Motorcycles carried upright and strapped down after a slide on Huron River Drive or Bridge Road
  • A price confirmed by dispatch before the truck leaves, and an itemized receipt you can submit to your insurer yourself

Three miles out, and what that does and does not mean

Ypsilanti Township is the closest place we serve outside the city itself. Most of the township sits about three miles from our Ypsilanti base, down Huron Street, out Michigan Avenue, or along Grove Road toward Ford Lake. That proximity is real, and it is not a promise about minutes. When you call, dispatch looks at where the truck is right then, gives you an honest arrival window, and confirms the price on the same call before anything rolls. If the nearest truck is finishing a job in Canton or Saline, you hear that too. Dispatch answers around the clock, every day including holidays, in English, Arabic, Spanish, German, and Romanian.

Township or city: your mail says Ypsilanti either way

Ypsilanti Township is a charter township in Washtenaw County that wraps the City of Ypsilanti on the west, south, and east, with Superior Township along the north side. The city covers a few square miles around downtown and the university; the township is many times larger and has more residents. Both use Ypsilanti mailing addresses and the 48197 and 48198 zip codes, so many residents have never had a reason to think about which one they live in. Dispatch does not need you to know. Give us the nearest cross streets and describe what is wrong, and the right truck for your vehicle comes either way.

I-94 from Huron Street to the county line

I-94 runs along the seam between the city and the township, and its shoulder generates a steady stream of calls.

  • Exit 181, Michigan Avenue (US-12). The western Michigan Avenue junction. Breakdowns on the ramps and on the shoulder between here and Rawsonville, plus rear-end taps in the merge.
  • Exit 183, Huron Street. On the city line, with big-lot retail just south of it; cars stall on the ramps and in the store lots.
  • Exit 187, Rawsonville Road. The Wayne County line. We cover the interchange and the shoulder on either side of it. The next exit east, Belleville Road at 190, is Van Buren Township in Wayne County and outside our regular area.

Tell dispatch eastbound or westbound, which exit you just passed, and whether you are on the shoulder or the ramp. Get everyone out on the side away from traffic and leave the hazards on; our driver sets up with work lights behind you.

Michigan Avenue, Ecorse Road, and the apartment corridor

East of the city, Michigan Avenue is the township's commercial spine: strip plazas, dealer lots, and apartment complexes and mobile home communities packed in behind them out to Rawsonville. Ecorse Road angles northeast past West Willow toward the former Willow Run plant site and the county line. This is where most of our roadside work in the township happens, and much of it never involves a hook. Lockouts in apartment lots after a late shift, dead batteries in a plaza lot, a flat on Michigan Avenue at rush hour, a tank that ran dry short of the station: those are flat-fee roadside calls dispatch quotes on the phone. When a tow is needed, apartment lots can be tight, with carports and cars parked nose to nose. Tell dispatch which building and row the car is in so the driver arrives with a plan for loading it without touching the cars on either side.

Ford Lake, the parks, and the two-lane south end

Ford Lake is the wide spot in the Huron River below the city, with Ford Lake Park on the south shore, North Bay Park at the west end, and Huron River Drive running along the water. Summer brings boat trailers to the launches, and a trailer that slides off the concrete into soft ground is a regular winch-out. Huron River Drive and Bridge Road near the dam draw motorcycles on warm weekends; a bike that goes down there rides upright, strapped and chocked, on our motorcycle transport rather than being dragged. South of Textile Road the township turns rural fast. Whittaker, Merritt, Bemis, Willis, and Hitchingham Roads are two-lane with deep ditches and open fields, and from December on the snow drifts across them and hides the shoulder. A car that slides in usually needs a winch-out and nothing more. The first fifteen minutes of winching are in the base price; anything longer, or any work off the pavement, is an add-on dispatch confirms before the truck leaves.

Where a township tow usually ends up

Most tows from Ypsilanti Township are short. The independent shops and dealer service departments along Michigan Avenue and Ecorse Road take a large share, and the shops inside the city of Ypsilanti are a few minutes up Huron Street or Grove Road. Dealership work often goes west to the dealers off State Street in Pittsfield Township, or east along Michigan Avenue to Canton, the one Wayne County community we cover. A tow is priced as a hook-up fee plus the loaded miles from where we pick you up to where the car is dropped, not from our base, so a run from Whittaker Road to a shop on Michigan Avenue is a shorter bill than one to Ann Arbor. Going south, our coverage continues past Willis Road and through Augusta Township to Milan. We do not bill insurance directly; you pay us and receive an itemized receipt to submit yourself. One number reaches dispatch for the township and everywhere around it: 734-985-0010.

Questions

Frequently asked

My address says Ypsilanti. How do I know whether I am in the township or the city, and does it matter?

It does not matter for getting a truck. The City of Ypsilanti is the compact core around downtown and the university; the charter township wraps it on the west, south, and east and shares the same mailing city and the same 48197 and 48198 zip codes. If you are south of I-94, east of the city along Michigan Avenue or Ecorse Road, or west along Washtenaw Avenue near Golfside Road, you are almost certainly in the township. Either way, give dispatch the nearest cross streets and we come.

Is the I-94 shoulder at Rawsonville Road still in your area?

Yes. Rawsonville Road is the Wayne County line, and we cover the exit 187 interchange and the shoulder on both sides of it. Past that, Belleville Road at exit 190 is Van Buren Township, which is outside our regular area apart from Canton. If you are not sure which side you are on, tell dispatch the direction you were heading and the last exit sign you passed, and we will sort it out on the call.

Can you get a car or a boat trailer out of the lot at Ford Lake Park or North Bay Park?

Yes. Dead batteries after a day on the water and trailers that slipped off the ramp into soft ground are both regular calls. A jump-start is a flat fee handled in the lot. Pulling a trailer or a tow vehicle back onto pavement is a winch-out, with the first fifteen minutes in the base price and any off-pavement work confirmed as an add-on before the truck leaves. Tell dispatch which park, which lot, and whether the gate is open.

How is a tow priced from Ypsilanti Township if you are only three miles away?

The same way as everywhere else: a hook-up fee plus the loaded miles from where we pick you up to where the car is dropped. Our distance to you is not on the bill. A tow from Whittaker Road to a shop on Michigan Avenue is a short loaded run; one to a dealer in Ann Arbor or Canton is longer. Holiday and off-pavement add-ons are named on the call, and dispatch confirms the total before a truck is sent.
